Promises.

Promising to write a new blog every week is a big promise...

So, a month (or so...) later here you go.  In the past month-ish time I:

All caught up.

This summer I started watching the Fox series Fringe.

Chief Perez

A photo of a photo.

This is my very first trip to the firehouse;  I was maybe five years old.  This is the beginning of his career as a firefighter.  This is also the beginning of when my dad started being my dad.

Last night I lost my luck...

but not to worry, today I found it.

This ring belonged to my grandmother.  She gave it to me a maybe three or four years ago.  And last night, I lost it.  Or so I thought.

The last of España.

Now that I've been home for a few days and am nearing the end of my battle with jet lag, I will post the last pictures from Spain.

Full moon!

I'm bad at photo-a-day...

So, I've not been keeping up very well with the dates of my photos.  It's been kinda hard figuring it out with the time change.  So.... I think for the remainder of this trip, unless I know for sure what the date was, I will forgo the dates for a bit.

I'm not sure what date this was, but it was the first day that there were any clouds in the sky.  There haven't really been any clouds since.

When in Rome...

But first some pictures of La Coria, the restored convent that now houses our school.

A view out of one of the windows in a hallway.  I love the colors.

The halfway point.

I'll start off with this just because I forgot to include it in the last post.  These young children were also at the bull ranch the day that we were.  They were there for a party, most likely after church as they are definitely in their Sunday clothes.  They enjoyed themselves watching the American students fight the baby bull.

La Alberca and a bull ranch.

6.19.11

La Alberca is a very small traditional town about two to three hours outside of where we were staying in Salamanca.  It's architecture is interesting because it is highly influenced by central European immigrants.  I just couldn't help but to take a picture of this little guy.  Flowers are probably my favorite thing to photograph, but I've bee trying to branch out and try new things.  This was the first flower I photographed on the trip, and I think the only one thus far.

Salamanca.

6.18.11

On this day we had a few places to go see to complete some work in our Cuaderno.  First stop on the list was the indoor mercado.  This is the outside of it.

Let's play catch up.

6.17.11

Welcome to Salamanca, Spain.  We stayed in a quaint little hotel called Hotel Emperatriz.  I loved it.  It was so very cute.  This was the view from right outside and to the left of our little balcony.

The journey begins.

6.14.11
Sorry, some kinda boring photos first in keeping with my photo a day challenge.  We took apart my froggy humidifier because it was leaking.

The last weekend.

6.10.11
All of Friday was spent working on the essays that were due that night at midnight.  There's nothing more exciting than the adrenaline rush you get trying to meet a deadline, am I right?  Well, I'm not sure if that's completely true, but it's the only way I've been writing papers all my life.  It usually works out in the end.

Let's have a catch.

6.7.11
On Tuesday I was working on my required reading for Spain.  My friend Juan texted Daniel and I to see what we were up to.  Obviously, we jumped at the opportunity to hang out with Juan.  Who cares for homework during the summer?  I can't think of anyone.  So we rode bikes down to school to meet up with Juan, and then proceeded to get smoothies.  That was a pleasant hot summer day treat.  Then we went to the field on campus to have a catch.  I photographed this little guy there at the field.

6.8.11
These sweet babies came in the mail on Wednesday!  I am so excited for these.  I ordered them from Autonomie Project.  It's a website that sells "Fair Trade Fashion", which I can totally appreciate.  They make these shoes with Fair Trade cotton for the upper and the laces, and the rubber part is FSC certified. They are super soft and comfy.  Perfect for no socks!

They came in this rad made from recycled material box.  Each shoe was individually wrapped.  So fancy...

Here they are, all laced up and ready to go!  I love the color.  They are such a cool color, kind of an ambiguous blue green.  Perfect to match with everything.

6.9.11
Who gets sick in the middle of summer?  Apparently this girl.  Because of the smoke and the wind in Albuquerque lately I'd been having some pretty gnarly allergies.  Or so I thought.  Last night things got worse and this morning i felt like death.  You know: simultaneously runny and stuffy nose, headache, body aches, hots and colds, sore throat, the whole deal.  Daniel, being the amazing boyfriend that he is, took me to the Frontier for a breakfast burrito chock full of eggs, green chile, and hashbrowns, and a large orange juice.  Number one: after you live in New Mexico for a while you grow to believe that green chile has some sort of medicinal powers.  At the very least it'll clear your sinuses out, that's for sure.  Number two: the orange juice from the Frontier is absolutely heavenly.  That's all it is, fresh squeezed orange juice.  Nothing more, nothing less.  So basically I've been pumping my system with vitamin c and napping all day.  Also, I worked a bit on those essays for tomorrow, and had a stroll around target.

The end of the world?

6.5.11
These are some lovely flowers that I got to take home from a baptism after party as a souvenir.  They are now sitting on my kitchen table and bring a noticeable brightness to the room.  I love having fresh flowers around!

June...

6.1.11  (the before)
June started out with a surprise bang.  The day itself was pretty mellow.  I just cleaned up the house and did some required reading for my Spain trip.  In the evening on the way to run some errands this is what greeted me from the parking lot behind my apartments.  It was initially unpleasant, but did put a bit of a spark into my mundane day.  Daniel and I took it as a welcome challenge.  Just about a year ago we had to change this same tire on a late cold march night.  The circumstances were far more amicable on this day.
