Let's play catch up.

6.17.11

Welcome to Salamanca, Spain.  We stayed in a quaint little hotel called Hotel Emperatriz.  I loved it.  It was so very cute.  This was the view from right outside and to the left of our little balcony.

The cathedral in Salamanca was absolutely breathtaking.  It was huge and lavish.  More photos to come of the cathedral later probably.

The outside of the Art Deco Museum in Salamanca has this beautiful glass front.  Sadly, it was closed every time that we tried to go inside.  But the outside was very pretty.

The Plaza Mayor in Salamanca is "the" place to be.  This is where all the locals spend their evenings, chatting and enjoying the fresh weather.

This is my lovely roommate from our time in Salamanca.  Her name is Jaymie, and I am so glad that I've gotten to know her.  Pretty much everyone on the trip gets along well.  It's a good group and that makes it all the better.

So, of course the first night we wanted to do as the locals do.  So we sat and had some red wine (vino tinto) on the plaza.  This is Jaymie's boyfriend Laz, they are quite the little lovebirds.  Too cute.

We even got to see a wedding on the Plaza!  It must have been wedding season while we were there, I saw at least three.  The weddings were huge and so gorgeous.  We had fun looking at all the dresses of the attendees and of course the bride.  Everyone dresses so fancy for the weddings that it's hard to distinguish who is in the wedding party and who is just there to see the wedding.

It didn't start getting dark in Salamanca until at least ten at night.  Everyone stays out pretty late.  If you try to go eat dinner before ten thirty people will look at you kinda strangely.  The plaza fills to the brim at night because it's nice and cool out.  And there's no street lights in the plaza but since it's so brightly lit up there's no need.  All of Salamanca is so well lit.

Well, sorry that this post hasn't been too substantial.  I finally have my wifi (or weefee as they call it here) situation figured out.  The wifi in Salamanca was hard to come by and wasn't the most reliable.  But now I my internet is slowish, but at least consistent.  Two days ago was my first day of Spanish classes.  My professor is a Spanish professor here in Spain at the University of Extremadura.  So he's the real deal.  This class will be challenging, but I think that I will learn a lot.  Because of the initial work load I haven't had much time to do much else.  But today it calmed down.  I even got to take a two hour siesta!  Thank god, because I needed it.  The way that the schedule is here really works out, but if you miss your siesta, it's pretty exhausting.  Well I suppose that's all I've got for now.  More to come within a couple days.  (If blogger is so willing... :/)  Hope that you all are doing well!  Love.
